SGA election winners announced

The Student Government Association (SGA) announced its 2009 general election results Wednesday. Both referenda on the ballot passed heavily. But due to poor wording, question two, concerning moving SGA elections voting online, will be withdrawn by Derek Khanna.

“Taking back campus”

The student strike in the fall of 2007 may not have been long-lived, but after two years of production, a University of Massachusetts student is ready to premiere “Taking Back Campus,” a documentary on the strike. Directed by Rosie Walunas, the documentary chronicles the two days of the student run strike that took place that November.

Minutemen square off with Fordham Saturday at Rudd Field

With three wins in as many games, UMass looks to extend its winning streak to four games this Saturday when they host the Rams. The Minutemen have not lost in their previous six games, a streak that dates back to Sept. 11.

Piekos, Amick help Koch to 200th win at UMass

With Chris Piekos playing solid in net and Stuart Amick playing his original position, the Minutemen have won three games in a row including Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Colgate. The victory was also the 200th win at UMass for coach Sam Koch.

Students arrested for larceny

On Tuesday, September 22, 2009, two University of Massachusetts students were arrested on numerous charges including larceny of university property. Matthew Cody Burgess, 19 of Cohasset, MA, was arrested for the larceny of a vehicle and disorderly conduct, and Edward F. Wolfersdorf, 20, East Quogue, NY was arrested for the larceny of a vehicle, disorderly conduct, destruction of over $250 dollars worth of property, leaving the scene of property damage, and leaving the scene of personal injury.

Plan to avert impending UMass budget crisis to be ready by spring

In a meeting with the Massachusetts Daily Collegian, Chancellor Robert Holub outlined steps he plans to take to address future gaps in the budget. According to the Chancellor’s budget update on June 18, the University of Massachusetts faces a deficit of approximately $30 million dollars in fiscal year 2011, and these difficulties will continue in fiscal year 2012.

Minutewomen gets rematch with Syracuse on Saturday

After being knocked out of the NCAA Tournament last fall by Syracuse, UMass will look for revenge as they head to New York for a rematch with the No. 6 team in the nation. UMass will look to forward Jill Powers who has had success against the Orange in the past.

Sowry Minutewomen finding success on the road

Despite plenty of support when playing at Garber Field this season, UMass has gone 3-0 on the road and 4-2 at home. The Minutewomen hope to continue that success on the road when they head to No. 6 Syracuse this weekend.
