For most freshmen, playing collegiate soccer is an adjustment that takes time and energy in order for a player to develop. A lot of rookies hardly see the field their first year, sitting behind more experienced players in order to learn the system.

Kelly, Charochak sweep A-10 weekly awards
After No. 9 UMass swept Vermont and Quinnipiac, two of its players swept the conference weekly awards. Katie Kelly earned the A-10 Player of the Week while Kara Charochak earned Rookie of the Week.

Richmond moves closer to .500
After suffering early in the season due to a tough schedule, the Spiders seem to be moving in the right direction. Led by Katelin Peterson, Richmond has moved to within one game of .500.

Temple’s Witmer, Noone grab weekly honors
After contributing on the offensive end for the Owls, both Tyler Witmer and J.T. Noone were awarded for their efforts. Witmer earned A-10 Player of the Week honors while Noone grabbed a Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week award.

Artists ask “Who Does She Think She Is?” in new documentary
The Everywoman’s Center and the Women of Color Leadership Network will be presenting the film, “Who Does She Think She Is?” tonight at 7 p.m. in the Augusta Savage Gallery in the New Africa House. This event is free to everyone, and the location is also wheelchair accessible.

Singaporean Spectacle showing at SOM
The Asian Arts and Culture Program is screening films at the Isenberg School of Management every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. throughout the fall semester. Covering everything from the Iranian coming-of-age story “Times and Winds” to the Bollywood extravaganza “Om Shanti Om,” this series is sure to interest devoted film fans and newcomers alike.
This week brought the Singaporean submission to the 2007 Academy Awards, “881” (pronounced Papaya). This in-depth look at the competitive world of Getai singers was directed by Royston Tan, and was the highest grossing Singaporean film on its year of release.
