As University of Massachusetts students vote this week to elect their peers to the Student Government Association, four people will not find their names on the ballot this semester. The nomination forms of four students – Jon Menzin, Sarah Schultz, Andrew Dawson and Brad DeFlumeri – were ultimately rejected by the SGA election commission. Each can still reach office through a write-in campaign.

During the second weekend of the University of Massachusetts’ school year, a record number of emergency calls were made with over half involved in alcohol from locations across the Hampshire County. From Friday September 18 to Sunday September 20, approximately 48 calls were made to emergency services, 40 of which prompted ambulance visits.

The Massachusetts tennis team got its season off on the right track at the Eastern Collegiate Invitational this weekend. The doubles pairs were the stars during the event as junior Candynce Boney and senior Maude Lecluyse teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles title. The team of Tanisha Hodgson and Jocelyn Providence battled back from a tough first-round loss to win the second doubles consolation bracket as well.

Hockey season has begun, as the Massachusetts’ men’s club team started its season. The Minutemen began club play by dropping eight goals on Vermont this past Saturday with a final score of 8-1.
