University of California at San Diego Chancellor Marye Anne Fox spoke Wednesday in the Integrated Sciences Building on the future of public higher education. Beginning her lecture just after noon., she discussed how the current financial crisis facing America has affected the state of public higher education, particularly research universities.

A new website has introduced a safety service which allows users to take photos of the people around them, aiming to build a database of photos to aid investigators in case of crime.

On October 26, 2009 at 8 p.m. the Alpha Kappa chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and the University of Massachusetts section of the Sigma Lambda Gamma sorority hosted an event in the Malcolm X center entitled “Love Your Body.” The event addressed body image issues that affect both sexes in modern society in the context of a college campus.

In its final non-conference game of the year, the Minutewomen fell to Dartmouth 6-3 Wednesday night. UMass will have to win out its remaining conference schedule, as well as a combination of other things in order to make the A-10 tournament.

The Amherst Police Department has won an Award of Excellence in the silver category for municipal departments participating in the annual Massachusetts Law Enforcement Challenge. The award recognizes departments for their efforts to reduce motor vehicle related fatalities, injuries and economic loss in communities by combining traffic enforcement with public education and information.

After a 34-12 loss at Richmond last Saturday, the UMass football team looks to find its winning ways when it travels to Maine to take on the Black Bears this weekend. With four CAA games left in the 2009 season, the Minutemen will have to win at least half of their games if they want to take over in the North Division.
