Gov. Patrick releases 2011 budget; UMass spared cuts

With the release of Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick’s 2011 budget Tuesday, it appears as if the University of Massachusetts has been spared any major cuts to funding, and has actually received a revenue boost.

Minutemen snap losing streak

Behind performances from Baltimore natives Ricky Harris and Terrell Vinson, the Massachusetts basketball team ended their five-game losing streak with an 87-80 victory over Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday. The win marked the Minutemen’s first Atlantic 10 road victory of the season.

Minutewomen lose on Field Trip Day

After winning on Field Trip Day for the past three years, the Massachusetts women’s basketball team fell to George Washington, 65-54, at the Mullins Center on Wednesday. Freshman Jasmine Watson scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds on her way to her second career double-double in the loss.

Minutewomen feel A-10 chances slipping away

Despite injuries, the Massachusetts women’s basketball team is not getting any sympathy from the coaching staff as it dropped its contest to George Washington on Wednesday. With the loss, the Minutewomen are now 1-4 in the Atlantic 10 and have fallen out of the top 10 in the standings.

Minutemen hit the road in search of series wins

Though the Massachusetts hockey team lost its last games against Boston University and Providence, it has an opportunity this weekend to win both series with victories. Nevertheless, UMass coach Don Cahoon is concentrating primarily on the Terriers this Friday and not looking ahead to the Friars on Saturday.

UMass looks to avenge loss against Boston University

After defeating Boston University in its second game of the season, the Massachusetts hockey team was handed one of its worst losses against the Terriers in the previous matchup. UMass enters the game this weekend having played better hockey recently, winning four of its last five contests.
