Minutemen drop out of playoff picture with loss to No. 7 Eagles

While UMass put together a better performance than it had over the past couple of weeks, it still wasn’t enough as it fell to Boston College, 2-1, in overtime. The loss, coupled with two wins by Vermont, currently has the Minutemen in ninth place and out of the Hockey East playoff picture.

In sickness or in health insurance

What sort of world do we live in where a mature, pretty and leggy blond woman has to create a website to find a husband? A world where healthcare is a growing problem for millions. Terri Carlson, a 45-year-old divorced mother, took to the Internet to form Willmarryforhealthinsurance.com to find a husband that could give her health insurance, putting love on the back burner for now.

George Saunders illustrates life through writing

George Saunders, author of “In Persuasion Nation,” spoke on Feb. 23 at the University of Massachusetts in the Student Union Ballroom. Over an hour and a half, the thin, bearded Chicagoan told the standing-room audience something like his life story. In his words, he set out to describe “the way art actually works.” As a writer, he did this by telling stories. As a funny writer, those stories tended to put him as the butt of the jokes.

No. 20 Minutewomen play to a 2-3 record at Leadoff Classic

Behind strong pitching from sophomore Sara Plourde, including her second career no-hitter, UMass took two out of five games this past weekend. In the three losses, the Minutewomen’s offense was shutdown by opposing pitchers, scoring just two runs in the three losses.

Minutemen fall to Dayton’s high-flying offense

With Freshman leading the scoring for UMass, and Ricky Harris adding a season-low nine, UMass fell to Dayton Saturday on the road. The 96-68 loss to the Flyers was the Minutemen’s worst loss this season since losing by 38 to Michigan State in November.
