Disco Biscuits shine into “The Great Abyss”

The Disco Biscuits lifted everyone in the Calvin Theatre out of their seats with another energetic set this past Saturday night. The crowd was greeted on King Street in Northampton with flashing lights and dozens of the boys in blue. The line stretched around the block and onto Route 9, filled with fans eager to get in and start dancing. A cloud of smoke filled the front entranceway of the venue. Through the cloud, there was a sea of vibrant colors and attached to them were people desperately trying to get a ticket.

‘Vagina Monologues’ performed at Bowker

They meet every Sunday as an entire group, with a supplemental smaller meeting during the week, to discuss one thing: their vaginas. The cast of the “Vagina Monologues,” coming to Bowker Auditorium Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., has been rehearsing for just under a month, and is made up of over 40 women. While most are University of Massachusetts students, members also include staff from the Everywoman’s Center, a haven for students of any gender expression to turn to for help.

Dalai Lama and UMass students agree Tibet should be free from China

Several UMass students often lead protests to “free Tibet” from the People’s Republic of China’s territory. The Dalai Lama’s recent visit to the White House does not necessarily mean that the United States Administration is willing to compromise its relationship with China to support independence for Tibet.

Da Costa sparking Merrimack as a freshman

In his first season with the Merrimack hockey team, Stephane Da Costa is already garnering national recognition for his play. Da Costa is second in points (35) among all rookies in the country with 13 goals and 22 assists. His performance has translated into success for the Warriors, who have won eight conference games this season.

Saint Joseph’s defeats Richmond at the buzzer

Saint Joseph’s defeated Richmond 67-66 with a last second shot. Senior forward Brittany Ford hit a 15-foot baseline jumper with just 0.9 seconds remaining to give the Hawks the victory. Ford recorded a game-high 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Terracciano, O’Donnell, Florence earn A-10 weekly honors

Three players on the Massachusetts women’s lacrosse team were honored this week by the Atlantic 10. Lauren Terracciano was chosen as Rookie of the Week, Jesse O’Donnell was named Performer of the Week, and Katie Florence was selected as Defensive Player of the Week. Their performances this past week helped the Minutewomen earn back-to-back victories against Holy Cross and Connecticut.

Five teams in A-10 have chance at Big Dance

Going down the final stretch of the season, five teams in the Atlantic 10 have an opportunity to earn a bid into the NCAA Tournament. While Richmond, Temple, and Xavier are likely to earn a bid, teams like Rhode Island, Dayton and Charlotte will have to fight to earn a spot.

Minutewomen open up four-game home stand

After a pair of wins against Holy Cross and Connecticut, the Massachusetts women’s lacrosse team takes on No. 10 Boston University this afternoon at McGuirk Stadium. The game marks the first of a four-game home stand for the Minutewomen, who take on a Terriers team in their season opener.
