Minutewomen return to Amherst

After spending the first six weeks of the season playing games on the road and at neutral fields, the Massachusetts softball team returns to the Northeast today when it hosts Dartmouth in a doubleheader. In their last meeting, the Minutewomen shut out the Big Green twice and scored 28 runs in their two-game series back in March, 2006.

Interim vice chancellor takes over post permanently

After serving for nine months on an interim basis, Jean Kim was appointed the first permanent vice chancellor for student affairs and campus life in over two years, according to an announcement made yesterday by the University of Massachusetts.

Holy Cross travels to Earl Lorden Field

After a 2-1 series loss to Saint Joseph’s over the weekend, the Massachusetts baseball team will get out of conference play when it hosts Holy Cross at Earl Lorden Field today. Senior Bryan Leigh will get the nod for the Minutemen as he looks to match the performances of Nick Serino and Mike Gedman who pitched back-to-back complete games against the Hawks.

UMass dominates weekend by picking up two victories

After defeating Presbyterian last Thursday to stop a five-match losing streak, the Massachusetts tennis team continued to play well with wins over New Jersey Institute of Technology and Hofstra over the weekend. The Minutewomen wrapped up a six-match road trip by defeating the Highlands 6-1, before cruising to a 7-0 victory against the Pride in Amherst.

State of emergency declared due to heavy rains, flooding

Governor Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency for Massachusetts yesterday in response to a severe rain storm that hit the state Monday and will continue today. Three to six inches are expected to hit the state by Wednesday.
