Minutewomen finally able to practice outside

Though the Massachusetts softball team has done well this season and won both its Atlantic 10 games, UMass coach Elaine Sortino feels there is room for improvement. Part of the reason why Sortino feels the Minutewomen haven’t done as well as they can is because they’ve only recently begun to practice outdoors. Practicing inside has limited work on base running and outfield play, which was improved in UMass’ recent wins after practicing outside.

Minutemen pitching going the distance

Though the pitching staff has allowed over 100 runs in the first 11 games and has been the Achilles’ heel for the Massachusetts baseball team this season, starting pitching has gone the distance the last two outings. Nick Serino and Mike Gedman pitched back-to-back complete games against Saint Joseph’s after the pitching staff surrendered nine runs in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

UMass captures second-pace finishes in Yankee Cup

Despite tough weather conditions, the Massachusetts rowing team was able to finish second in the Yankee Cup in Rhode Island on Saturday. The Minutewomen captured four second-place finishes in the First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four, and Novice Eight events.

Irish muralists take residency at UMass

Once enemies during the Irish War of Independence, artists Danny Devenny and Mark Ervine, sat together on March 30 in the Cape Code Lounge at the University of Massachusetts. In front of a crowded room, the two discussed how they began collaborating with mural painting and the peace process in Ireland about four years ago.

Minutemen win first ever CAA game, upset No. 6 Hofstra

UMass recorded it’s first win over a top 10 team since 2006 when it upset the Pride Saturday afternoon at Garber Field. The Minutemen were led in the 11-9 victory by Art Kell who recorded his fourth hat trick of the year.
