Last Wednesday, the Amherst Police Department arrested two Springfield men on charges of possession of a Class D substance, marijuana, with intent to distribute and possession of a Class B substance, cocaine.
Arrested were 21-year-old Craig Brian McNair of 119 Littleton St. and Alberto Jose Ramos, 20, of 36 Alvin street. The pair was taken into custody after a traffic stop on College St. just after 3 a.m. In addition to the narcotics, officers confiscated several hundred dollars of cash.
The duo were held overnight at the Hampshire County House of Corrections in Northampton and arraigned last Wednesday morning at Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown.
Neither man is a student at the University of Massachusetts or any of the Five Colleges.
The Massachusetts General Laws stipulate that a first offense conviction for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute can carry a sentence of up to two years in jail.
