Springfield man arrested on breaking and entering charges

On Sept. 8 just after 10:30 p.m., Amherst police officers received a report from a Sunset Ave. resident of a larceny in his apartment.

The resident told police he had observed Michael Gibbs, 23, of 173 Chapin Terrace, Springfield leave his apartment, and that he noticed some missing electronic equipment.
Gibbs was stopped by an officer of the University of Massachusetts Police Department a short way from the scene of the crime and was found to have the stolen items in his possession.

Gibbs was then held at the Hampshire County House of Corrections in Northampton in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. He was arraigned last Thursday, Sept. 9 on charges of entering a dwelling at night to commit a felony, larceny from a building, furnishing a false name, and having an outstanding arrest warrant from Springfield District Court.

The Sept. 9 Amherst Police Department release from Lieutenant Ronald Young also stated that investigators are attempting to determine if Gibbs has been involved in a string of burglaries around Amherst.
