Fashion Week: The stakes couldn’t be higher

The second annual Fashion’s Night Out was held in cities around the globe Sept. 10 to kick off New York Fashion Week.  While the majority of the public views the fashion industry as a mess of overly priced garments that are completely unrealistic to wear, Fashion’s Night Out proves this $300 billion-a-year business to be important economically.

“The retail community is suffering and we’re all suffering,” said Vogue’s editor in chief, Anna Wintour, in a CBS documentary about the event. “The original concept of Fashion’s Night Out really came out of the recession. Looking at designers in distress, stores deeply concerned, shoppers not feeling that it was really the right thing to do to go shopping.”

The fashion community rallied behind Wintour.  Stores opened their doors later than ever, and offered sales and discounts. Fashion enthusiasts of all ages dressed to impressed, and the finally, it seems that the fashion industry is coming back to life.
