As voters go to the polls this week those who are casting their ballots in Amherst will find two new names in the First Congressional District race, as Republican candidate Bill Gunn and Independent Michael Engel campaign to unseat well-established Democratic incumbent John Olver.

Political Pollsters are having a difficult time receiving responses from residents due to diminishing landline phone use and increasing cell phone use. Brian F. Schaffner of the Political Science Department and Stephen Ansolabehere of Harvard found in a recent study that “one in five households rely solely on cell phones.”
