UM student sustains critical head injuries in assault

A University of Massachusetts student sustained critical head injuries during an alleged assault at the Pufton Village Apartment complex on North Pleasant Street last Saturday.

According to a Monday release from Amherst Police lieutenant Ronald Young, the 23-year-old male student, whose name has not yet been released, was allegedly beaten by an aggressor who fled the scene before police arrived. The suspect remains at large.

The victim is currently being hospitalized at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where he is listed in critical condition.
