Student inventors compete in sixth-annual challenge

Eleven groups of student business leaders and inventors will compete Thursday for $10,000 in cash prizes and sponsorship for business plans they have developed during the first stage of the University of Massachusetts’ sixth-annual Innovation Challenge.

Kemba Walker begins season for UConn in stellar fashion

Kemba Walker of the Connecticut men’s basketball team was named MVP of the EA Sports Maui Invitational after averaging 30 points and four assists per game to lead the Huskies to a tournament victory. The sophomore averaged 14.6 points per game and never scored 30 points in a game in his rookie campaign.

Richmond upsets Purdue to win tournament title

The Richmond men’s basketball team upset Purdue, 65-54, to claim the Chicago Invitational tournament title on Saturday. Senior guard Kevin Anderson led the Spiders with 28 points, while Justin Harper poured in 14 to extend Richmond’s winning streak to four games.

Minutemen claim pair of wins over Thanksgiving break

The Massachusetts men’s club ice hockey team defeated Keene State and Maine over Thanksgiving break for its second three-game winning streak of the season. Despite the strong offensive production by the Minutemen, UMass coach Mike Atkinson feels that the defense has been impressive.
