Amherst Police arrest over 100 during weekend

Over 100 people were arrested or issued summons to court in Amherst over the weekend – with many of those taken into custody or issued tickets faulted for violating noise or alcohol related laws or ordinances, according to town police logs.

Several arrests occurred at gatherings on Meadow Street and Summer Street early Sunday morning, according to the logs.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, police arrested four people – 22-year-old Ryan Casey of North Andover, 22-year-old Brian Bartolucci of Brewster, 23-year-old Daniel Rigney of Marshfield and 22-year-old Salvatore Cacciatore of Waltham – at 53 Meadow St. for violating the town’s unlawful noise and nuisance house bylaws.

And shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, eight people at a gathering at 60 Summer St. were taken into custody. Those arrested included 20-year-old Timothy Higgins of Methuen; 20-year-old John Coschigano of Bethel, Conn.; 20-year-old Adam Dorfman of Randolph, N.J.; 20-year-old Steven Pesapane Jr. of Stony Brook, N.Y.; 21-year-old Philip Taberner of Methuen; 20-year-old Kevin Miller of Methuen; 20-year-old Marc Jesi of Peabody; and 21-year-old Nicholas Fabrizio of Methuen. Those arrested face charges of violating the town’s unlawful noise and/or nuisance house bylaws.

Police also responded to gatherings on Ball Lane, Main Street and South Whitney Street over the weekend and arrested inhabitants at residences, in addition to arresting or issuing summons to a number of people over the weekend in several locations about town.

But even with a large number of arrests or summons, not many violent crimes occurred in town this weekend, police said.

“We didn’t have the significant amount of violence that we’ve had in week’s past,” said Amherst Police Detective David Foster at a media briefing yesterday morning.

Each violation of the town’s bylaws, though, includes a $300 fine.
