Aiming to better weather possible natural disasters, University of Massachusetts officials will hold a public forum today to discuss details of a preliminary plan for hazard mitigation and disaster preparedness at UMass.

The draft plan outlines how UMass will potentially respond to severe weather conditions, including “hurricanes and blizzards, earthquakes and other large-scale natural disasters,” according to a press release.

Presentations of the Campus Hazard Mitigation Plan, as the draft plan is called, will be given every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the UMass Police Department, the release said.

The release also states that funding for the plan’s creation was provided in part through grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.

Jamie Caplan Consulting LLC and the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission assisted UMass’ Nature Hazard Planning Group in the creation of the plan, according to the release.
