Patriots Day weekend leads to 15 arrests

The Amherst Police Department reported 15 arrests during the course of the Patriots Day weekend, 14 of which were alcohol related.

The weekend’s first arrest occurred only 40 minutes past midnight on Saturday at Monkey Bar. According to police, a disturbance was reported at the establishment and officers arrived to find a man being “actively restrained” by other parties. The log states that the man had refused to pay his tab at the bar and became assaultive toward Monkey Bar staff. Michael D. Moran, 22, of Holyoke was eventually arrested by police on charges disorderly conduct and taken into custody.

Only a few minutes later at 1 a.m. police pulled over a vehicle on Boltwood Avenue after it was reportedly witnessed failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. According to police the drive showed signs of impairment and was issued a field sobriety test. Driver William Zimmerman, 24, of Littleton was arrested on charges of failure to stop/yield, operating under the influence of alcohol and operation of a motor vehicle to endanger.

At 2:18 a.m. police pulled over a vehicle on Northeast St. for a defective headlight. According to police the operator of the vehicle showed signs of impairment and a field sobriety test was conducted. Driver Timothy A. Moliterno, 24, of Amherst was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol, operation of a motor vehicle to endanger, and for a motor vehicle lights violation.

Later on Satuday, North Pleasant street 21-year-old John Michael Dibitetto of Bradford was arrested on charges of violating a town by-law regarding open containers of alcohol.

One hour later on Phillips Street two women were reportedly witnessed by police dropping bottles of liquid while walking, later confirmed to contain alcohol. Stacey Bezreh, 19, of Burlington and Cassandra Barci, 19, of Bayport N.Y. were arrested on charges of possession of alcohol under the age of 21.

On the same street only a few minutes later 20-year-old Erin A. Manning of Needham was arrested on charges of possession of alcohol under the age of 21 and for violating a town by-law regarding open containers of alcohol.

Further down Phillips Street 20 minutes later police reportedly observed a man drinking from an open bottle of alcohol. When he realized police were present the man allegedly dropped the bottle and became uncooperative with police. Colin Robinson, 19, of Plymouth was arrested for possession of liquor under the age of 21 and for violating town by-law regarding open containers of alcohol.

On Northampton road police made two arrests after reportedly witnessing two female parties walking with bottles of alcohol. Rose Hannah Miller of New York, N.Y. was arrested on charges of both possession of alcohol under the age of 21 and for violating town-by-law regarding open containers of alcohol while Claire Lucia Castellano of Glen Head N.Y. was arrested on charges of possession of alcohol under the age of 21.

Early Sunday morning police responded to a noise complaint on Northampton road. According to police, loud excessive noise could be heard from the apartment at the scene, and multiple uncooperative parties were present outside the residence, including those under the age of 21. Taylor Rose Darmetko, 21, of Abington and Elizabeth Lynn Aricho, 21, of Wrentham were both arrested on charges of violating town by-laws regarding unlawful noise and nuisance house as well as procurement of alcohol for those under 21.

At 50 Meadow Street police arrested and took into custody 20-year-old Michael Carmasine of Yardley on charges of possession of alcohol under the age of 21. His arrest was the last of the weekend for such a crime.

Early Monday morning police stopped a vehicle observed with both tires on the passenger side deflated. After the driver reportedly showed signs of impairment a field sobriety test was administered. Driver Michael Rory Brown, 22, of Sharon was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol, operation of a motor vehicle to endanger, and for miscellaneous motor vehicle equipment violation.

The final arrest of the weekend occurred Monday evening at 6 p.m. when police responded to a reported motor vehicle crash on Main Street. The vehicle had struck a parked car and was stopped by police who performed a field sobriety test. Driver Solveig Woychuck, 57, of Belchertown was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence as a 2nd offense, leaving the scene of property damage, and operation of a motor vehicle to endanger.

    What exactly is the point of this article? Don’t the staff at the Daily Collegian have better things to do than post information about these arrests, many of which did not even result in an actual conviction? Something very wrong with this picture (and “newspaper”).
