Police Log: Fri. March, 18 to Sun. 20

Friday, March 18:

9:25 a.m.: A woman walking her dog was concerned about a man who had pitched a tent in the middle of Wildwood Cemetery because “children play in the area.” Police did not find a man, or a tent.

6:26 p.m.: An employee at The Works of 48 N. Pleasant St. asked police to remove an older male who had passed out at one of the tables.

6:49 p.m.: A group of children stood at the entrance of the Rolling Green apartment complex at 4222 Belchertown Rd. and shouted or swore at passing drivers whom did not acknowledge them with a honk or a wave. A search of the area was negative.

11:57 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a breaking and entering at 266 East Hadley Road at the South Point Apartments. Officers did not disclose whether any items were stolen. The incident is being investigated in relation to a reported stolen vehicle and subsequent car chase early the next day.

Saturday, March 19:

4:46 a.m.: A driver led police on a short pursuit before crashing a reportedly stolen vehicle near East Hadley Rd. The operator of the vehicle was identified near the accident after fleeing on foot and was issued a summons. Police also found additional stolen property.

8:09 a.m.: A man at an apartment on Montague Road reported that his girlfriend had locked herself in the bathroom. He was concerned that a night spent drinking had triggered some preexisting psychological problems. The woman was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

1:31 a.m.: A fox, described as “goopy”-eyed, sick and unable to walk, was found in front of 130 University Dr. and eventually put down.

3:01 p.m.: A man collecting donations for the ACLU claimed he was assaulted in front of Antonio’s Pizza by a man who appeared to be homeless. The canvasser claimed that a man sparked up a conversation and then became aggressive after he explained his distaste for the ACLU. The alleged assailant claimed the ACLU made a poor choice in not taking on a case of his in the past and then reportedly pushed the canvasser into a brick wall before striking him.

Sunday, March 20:

10:05 a.m.: An officer pulled over a male in front the house of Teriyaki at 117 N. Pleasant St. after he nearly rear-ended a vehicle before him. Throughout the discussion, the officer smelt a whiff of marijuana and issued a sobriety test. The man passed but relinquished a small amount of marijuana to the officer.
