麻州大学癌症关怀小组举办的毛毯制作活动旨在为患有癌症的儿童和青少年捐赠手工制作的毛毯。小组将把这些毛毯交给海湾州立儿童医院,麻州总医院和麻州纪念医疗中心。

小组鼓励参加活动的人在独立的桌子上使用两块拉绒布料制作毛毯。他/她们用剪刀在布料边界剪下两英寸的切口,然后将松散的布条绑在一起,直到它们紧紧地连在一起。

毛毯的尺寸从小号到单人床大小都有。

根据麻州大学癌症关怀小组的副主席Mary McDonough的说法,通常情况下,制作一条毛毯需要大约15到20分钟。

联合主席Julia Tager表示,如果有人“以前从来没做过毛毯,这可能非常有挑战性。”

McDonough说, 执行委员会从Joann’s Fabrics and Michaels公司购买了40件块绒布料。麻州大学学生政府协会提供的资金支持使得小组能够进行该活动。这些面料以卡通为特色,如迪士尼“冰雪奇缘“中的奥拉夫,宇航员,马,和其他适合孩子的形象。

除了做毛毯之外,学生还可以为孩子制作节日贺卡。参与者在贺卡上写上祝福,如“节日快乐”,“圣诞节快乐”。

McDonough说,每张毛毯都会附送一张手工制作的贺卡。

Tager说,此次活动结束的时候总共有20条毛毯制作完成。她计划在十二月份的会议中再制作20条毛毯。

在去年的活动中,麻州大学癌症关怀小组收到了三家受捐赠医院送来的感谢贺卡。
