Red Summer Sun, a local band of high school friends, will be playing Friday Saturday 11, 2009 at the Monkey Bar. There is a $5 cover charge and doors open at 11pm.

Students volunteer at newly founded Massachusetts Academy of Sciences

The Massachusetts Academy of Sciences (MAS), founded several months ago by a biology professor at the University of Massachusetts, provides volunteer opportunities for students to interact with kids in the name of science.

Pacemakers secured

Future recipients of the newest line of implanted medical devices may share a common enemy with the computer in front of them: Internet hackers. In the United States alone, there are more then 2.5 million Implanted Medical Devices (IMDs), including pacemakers, defibrillators, and insulin pumps.

Sports drinks’ effects investigated

A scientific study conducted at the University of Massachusetts is aiming to prove that designer energy drinks and sports bars may do more harm then good. “I’m not trying to say all sports drinks are evil,” laughs Barry S. Braun, an associate professor of kinesiology and the director of the energy metabolism laboratory at the University of Massachusetts.
