The county’s district attorney’s office did not comment on a sexual assault case recently mishandled by campus administrators, but an official there said Friday that most instances of sexual assault require the victim’s consent and willingness to testify in court for the case to move toward prosecution.

A judge of the Superior Court of Hampshire County has postponed a motion on Tuesday March 2 to dismiss the case against former University of Massachusetts student Jason Vassell until March 26. The motion was proposed in late 2008 by Vassell’s defense team, and seeks to dismiss charges against Vassell based on clams of selective racial prosecution.

A nor'easter hit the North Shore on the night of Feb. 25 into the following morning. The storm pulled trees from the ground, ripped roofs off of houses and businesses, and even started a fire. Many cars were crushed by fallen trees and parts of buildings. Crews are working around the clock to clean up the mess, but a handful of houses are still without electricity.
