After eight seasons at the helm of the Minutewomen, coach Marnie Dacko will not return to the team next season. UMass Athletic Director John McCutcheon announced Monday afternoon that her contract would not be extended after its expiration on April 10.

Though the Massachusetts women’s basketball team stifled the Atlantic 10’s leading scorer Brittani Shells to nine points, they couldn’t conjure up enough offense to defeat Richmond. The Minutewomen got knocked out of the postseason with a 54-47 opening round loss to the Spiders, who pulled down 20 offensive rebounds.

Freshman Jasmine Watson finished with a team-high 20 points, as the Minutewomen defeated La Salle, 62-57. The win gives UMass its fourth conference victory.

Alone in ninth place in the Atlantic 10, the Massachusetts women’s team is in a good position to make the conference tournament. However, in order to make the postseason, the Minutewomen need to come up with a victory against La Salle tonight when they travel to Philadelphia for the second week in a row.
