Merrimack ends postseason drought

For the first time in six seasons, the Warriors have qualified for the Hockey East Tournament and will face Boston University on Friday. Merrimack clinched the No. 6 seed over the weekend, the second highest seed it has ever earned.

NCAA Tournament picture is clearer after weekend

Though five teams from the Atlantic 10 were considered a possibility to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament last week, the picture has become clearer after the weekend. Rhode Island, Charlotte, and Dayton have all struggled to impress and could be on the outside looking in after it’s all said and done.

Fordham’s Mineau and LaBovick awarded A-10 honors

The Fordham softball team’s Jen Mineau received her second Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week accolade of the season, while freshman Jamie LaBovick was named A-10 Rookie of the Week. The Rams are 6-3 overall and will compete next in the USF/Under Armour Invitational.

Lincoln and Trizano earn CAA honors

After their play last week, the Colonial Athletic Association gave Hofstra junior Jamie Lincoln and Drexel freshman Nick Trizano weekly honors. Lincoln received the CAA Player of the Week award, while Trizano earned CAA Rookie of the Week. Despite defeating Hartford last weekend, Delaware moves down three spots in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Top 20 poll from No. 13 to No. 16.

Da Costa sparking Merrimack as a freshman

In his first season with the Merrimack hockey team, Stephane Da Costa is already garnering national recognition for his play. Da Costa is second in points (35) among all rookies in the country with 13 goals and 22 assists. His performance has translated into success for the Warriors, who have won eight conference games this season.

Saint Joseph’s defeats Richmond at the buzzer

Saint Joseph’s defeated Richmond 67-66 with a last second shot. Senior forward Brittany Ford hit a 15-foot baseline jumper with just 0.9 seconds remaining to give the Hawks the victory. Ford recorded a game-high 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Five teams in A-10 have chance at Big Dance

Going down the final stretch of the season, five teams in the Atlantic 10 have an opportunity to earn a bid into the NCAA Tournament. While Richmond, Temple, and Xavier are likely to earn a bid, teams like Rhode Island, Dayton and Charlotte will have to fight to earn a spot.

Temple survives close game against Saint Joseph’s

Temple was given a fight by Saint Joseph’s on Friday, but prevailed 75-67 in overtime. Ramone Moore led the Owls with a career high 24 points, including the game tying basket, to move Temple to 22-5 overall and 10-2 in Atlantic 10 play.

Maine sweeps Providence over weekend

Maine goalie Scort Darling earned Pure Hockey Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors after he stopped 47 shots in both wins against Providence this weekend.
