Despite winning its last two games of the regular season to make the Atlantic 10 Tournament, UMass could not carry any momentum into its first round match with Richmond. After scoring an early goal, the Minutewomen could not get past the Spiders defense and fell in overtime.

The Minutewomen are in the midst of a two-game winning streak, after winning out its conference schedule to get in as the final seed in conference postseason play.

Needing two wins in their final regular season games, Cher King, Katie Kelly and Kim Young scored 11 of UMass’ 12 goals on the weekend to lift them over La Salle and West Chester and into the A-10 Tournament. King and Kelly each recorded hat tricks on the weekend with King scoring four times on Friday and Kelly knotting three on Sunday.

In its final non-conference game of the year, the Minutewomen fell to Dartmouth 6-3 Wednesday night. UMass will have to win out its remaining conference schedule, as well as a combination of other things in order to make the A-10 tournament.

The UMass field hockey team suffered two key injuries Wednesday night in a 6-3 loss to Dartmouth. Juniors Makaela Potts and Jaime Bourazeris were both injured, as the Big Green scored five straight goals on the Minutewomen. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Williams got the start in goal, but could not contain the Big Green offense.

UMass hopes to find some offensive rhythm against Dartmouth as they prepare for the final weekend of conference play. Because of the Minutewomen’s struggles at the beginning of the A-10 schedule, they have put themselves in a must-win scenario with its final two games this weekend if they want to make the conference tournament.
