During spring break week, the Massachusetts men’s lacrosse team will host Harvard and Providence as it looks to improve its 3-1 season record. The Minutemen will rely on their offense which ranks second in the nation in scoring with 15.67 goals per game, while the Friars have scored 10 total goals in their first two games.

After falling behind 4-1 early to Albany, the Massachusetts men’s lacrosse team used a 10-2 run to end the game, and came away with an 11-6 win Tuesday afternoon at Garber Field.

After suffering a late loss to Yale on Friday, UMass will take on Albany Tuesday afternoon at Garber Field as they look to climb back into the national rankings. The Great Danes pulled out a victory last season against the Minutemen and hold a 5-4 all-time advantage.

After winning 45 consecutive games when scoring 11 or more goals, the Massachusetts men’s lacrosse team was handed its first loss of the 2010 season by Yale. Matt Gibson scored five goals and added two assists for the Bulldogs, including scoring the game-winner with 34 seconds left to give Yale its second win.

In UMass’ 20-10 victory on Saturday, the Minutemen tied records for most goals in a half as well as goal scored with a man advantage. The 20 goals scored is also the most since scoring 21 back in 2002.

In order to create more shot opportunities this season, Massachusetts men’s lacrosse coach Greg Canella has instituted an offensive strategy built on extra passing. The style of play paid off against Sacred Heart in the first game of the season when the Minutemen came back from a deficit to win, 15-12.
