Trio of CAA teams still left in Football Championship field

UNH and Delaware square off Friday, after the Wildcats defeated Bethune-Cookman last week in the second round of play. The Blue Hens have one of the top five offenses in the country led by Penn State transfer quarterback and CAA Offensive Player of the Year Pat Devlin. Meanwhile, Villanova takes on Appalachian State, while William & Mary were defeated by Georgia Southern, 31-15 on its home turf.

FBS, FCS should combine divisions

Collegian columnist Adam Miller believes that it’s time for NCAA football to ditch the subdivisions and be more like its counterpart in basketball. With the current set-up, the FCS is setting itself up for the end of several conferences.

Strong start, tough finish for Minutemen campaign

After suffering just one loss in its first five games, UMass dropped four of its last six games of the 2010 season, missing the playoffs for the second-straight year. Despite the team not finishing the way they wanted to, individual players such as quarterback Kyle Havens and linebacker Tyler Holmes had career seasons.

Minutemen host Blue Hens in pivotal CAA clash

After defeating the Black Bears 39-24 victory for their third-straight conference win last week, UMass has yet another large test this week when the Blue Hens head to Amherst on Saturday.

Havens and offense having success with decline of turnovers

After throwing a league-worst 15 interceptions last season, Massachusetts quarterback Kyle Havens has only five this season. Going into a tough matchup against Delaware, UMass coach Kevin Morris believes possession is the biggest key to earning a victory.

Havens leads UMass win over Maine

Quarterback Kyle Havens broke a personal touchdown record in UMass’ 39-24 victory over rival Maine. Havens wasn’t the only one producing however, as linebacker Tyler Holmes had two interceptions returned for touchdowns.

Defensive stops key in UMass victory

The Massachusetts football team can thank its defense for its 39-24 victory over Maine. Linebacker Tyler Holmes became the first player in 2010 to return two interceptions for touchdowns in the FCS.

Villanova moves into tie for best conference record

On the strength of quarterback Chris Whitney’s performance, the Villanova football team defeated Richmond, 28-7, on Saturday to move into a three-way tie for the best record in the Colonial Athletic Association. Whitney tallied 118 rushing yards and scored three total touchdowns in the win.

Receiver Anthony Nelson filling big shoes left by Victor Cruz, Jeremy Horne

Ever since the Massachusetts football team lost Victor Cruz and Jeremy Horne to graduation, transfer Anthony Nelson has become quarterback Kyle Haven’s favorite target. The receiver leads the Colonial Athletic Association in receptions per game with 6.71.
