UMass announces 2011 schedule, holds Pro Day event

UMass football has announced its 2011 schedule, which is highlighted by the second-annual Colonial Clash at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 22 against New Hampshire and a BCS matchup with Boston College on Sept. 24.

Griffin still strong for Minutemen

The Massachusetts football team enters into its game against Rhode Island with two strong players in tailback John Griffin and Special teams specialist Caleb Violette. Both will have to work hard if they are to contest well against URI’s quarterback Steve Probst.

Griffin looking past Northeastern, eyes national championship with UMass

Last fall, tailback John Griffin wondered where and from whom he would be taking his next handoff from. It turned out to be from Kyle Havens and for the Minutemen, as the senior has adjusted to life in Amherst and as a key component of the UMass offense after transferring from NU after their program was cut.

Even with offensive production, turnovers and penalties still cause for concern

Despite its offensive efficiency in the running and passing attacks, coach Kevin Morris still wanted to stress turnovers and penalties in the bye week in hopes of being successful against the Spiders this Saturday.

UMass defeats Towson on road

The Massachusetts football team overcame a seven-point deficit to win its second game on the road against Towson, 27-14. The Minutemen finished with 386 net yards, including 192 on the ground.

Running back tandem paying off for Minutemen

Through their first four games, three of which have been victories, No. 8 UMass is third in the CAA with 212.8 yards per game, thanks in part to the two-headed monster that is John Griffin and Jonathan Hernandez.

After defeating Stony Brook last Saturday, UMass heads to the Maryland to take on the Tigers, who are coming off a disheartening 24-10 defeat at the hands of Ivy League foe Columbia.

Minutemen look past Wolverines, face Seawolves Saturday

After nearly upsetting Big Blue at the Big House, UMass takes on Stony Brook this Saturday. Last season, the Minutemen defeated the Seawolves 44-17, as Jonathan Hernandez rushed for 140 yards and three scores. Hernandez rushed for 118 against the Wolverines Saturday.

Minutemen look for second-straight win against Crusaders in night clash

Before their trip to the Big House, UMass takes on HC fresh off a big win over the No.4 Tribe last Saturday. The last time the two teams met was two years ago, resulting in a 45-42 victory in Worcester for the Minutemen.
