The Massachusetts football team enters into its game against Rhode Island with two strong players in tailback John Griffin and Special teams specialist Caleb Violette. Both will have to work hard if they are to contest well against URI’s quarterback Steve Probst.

Last fall, tailback John Griffin wondered where and from whom he would be taking his next handoff from. It turned out to be from Kyle Havens and for the Minutemen, as the senior has adjusted to life in Amherst and as a key component of the UMass offense after transferring from NU after their program was cut.

The Massachusetts football team overcame a seven-point deficit to win its second game on the road against Towson, 27-14. The Minutemen finished with 386 net yards, including 192 on the ground.

After nearly upsetting Big Blue at the Big House, UMass takes on Stony Brook this Saturday. Last season, the Minutemen defeated the Seawolves 44-17, as Jonathan Hernandez rushed for 140 yards and three scores. Hernandez rushed for 118 against the Wolverines Saturday.

Before their trip to the Big House, UMass takes on HC fresh off a big win over the No.4 Tribe last Saturday. The last time the two teams met was two years ago, resulting in a 45-42 victory in Worcester for the Minutemen.
