A suspect is in custody after two break-ins on Lincoln Avenue early Thursday morning, according to a series of University of Massachusetts crime alerts sent to the campus community.

According to one alert, one incident occurred at a house on Lincoln Avenue. A similar incident then occurred Thursday morning at approximately 3:30 a.m. in Lincoln Apartments. The suspect entered through a first floor window, and the incident remains under investigation.

The suspect was described as a 6’ tall white male with curly blonde hair.

UMass Deputy Police Chief Patrick Archbald said UMPD responded to the break-in at Lincoln Apartments. A lone female was sleeping when the break-in occurred. The suspect had climbed through the bathroom window, remained in the bathroom and locked the door. When police arrived, the door was still locked but the suspect had left through the window.

He said the police report does not indicate that any larceny took place.

Amherst Police apprehended the suspect following the break-in on Lincoln Avenue.

The UMass Police Department urged the campus community to continue to use caution and lock doors and windows. Anyone with information related to the Lincoln Apartment investigation is asked to contact UMPD at 413-545-2121. Inquiries related to the breaking and entering on Lincoln Avenue should be referred to Amherst Police.
