The University of Massachusetts Police Department is investigating an alleged sexual assault that took place on campus early Friday morning.

According to an email sent to students, a woman was walking on North Pleasant Street near the Studio Arts Building around 1 a.m. when an unidentified male joined her. After walking with her briefly, the man pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her by use of his hand, she told police.

The woman described the man as college-aged and wearing casual clothing, although no other details are currently available.

Anyone with further information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact UMPD.
