The Fordham women’s soccer team defeated the Bonnies from St. Bonaventure (3-9-1, 0-4-0) 1-0 Sunday in double overtime.

On the road in New York, the Rams (7-3-3, 2-0-2), heading to overtime, marked their third out of four conference games this year that have been tied at the end of regulation. Two of those three matches ended in draws.

For the majority of regulation, the Rams controlled the action and put pressure on Bonnie’s goalie Lauren Malcolm. In her hundred-plus minutes of play, Malcolm was able to turn away nine of the 10 shots she faced.

After a scoreless first ten minutes of extra time, Fordham was finally able to get one past Malcolm and net the game winner at 102:33.

Off a long punt from goalie Megan Fitzgerald, sophomore Lane Cronin dribbled the ball down the field to the end line, working one-on-one with Bonnie’s defenseman Sydney Cassagnol.

In the corner of the St. Bonaventure box, a battle for the ball and a quick heel turn by Cronin made Cassagnol lose her footing and momentarily fall to the grass.

With a moment of freedom from the defense, Cronin was able to dribble her way to the top corner of the box and send a ball off her left foot, over the head of Malcolm and into the top corner of the far post.

Cronin’s double overtime tally resulted in her second game winner of the week, the first coming in the 86th minute of a 1-0 shutout against Virginia Commonwealth University on Thursday.

Her late game heroics in back-to-back matches awarded her the A-10 Offensive Player of the Week award.

The Rams look to make it three straight conference wins on Thursday when they travel to St. Louis. St. Bonaventure looks to bounce back from Sunday’s disappointing loss with a win on Thursday in Rhode Island.

Goals from seniors Gingrich and Mulvey will St. Joseph’s to 2-1 comeback win

The St. Joseph’s Hawks took down the La Salle Explorers 2-1 on Sunday to continue their dominance in this year’s conference play.

After a scoreless first half, the Explorers (3-7-2, 1-1-2) netted the first score of the game on a goal from Paige McDowell in the 55th minute. On a corner kick by Danielle Marx that went off the head of Hunter Filippo, McDowell found the ball in front of the net and was able to put it in for her first goal of the year.

The Hawks (10-1-2, 3-0-1) wouldn’t stay down for long, though. At 76:27, a cross from freshman Gabrielle Vagnozzi into the La Salle box resulted in a Shannon Mulvey goal, tying the game 1-1.

Just over a minute later at 77:42, St. Joseph’s made quick use of the momentum from Mulvey’s goal and broke open the tie.

Off the foot of one senior to another, Mulvey’s corner kick to the front of the Explorer’s net allowed Emily Gingrich the chance to sneak one past Malcolm and put her team ahead 2-1.

The late lead would prove to be enough for the Hawks, who relying on freshman goalie Cameron Perrott, denied La Salle a single shot on net in the remaining time of play.

After a tough loss and unanswered second half goals, the Explorers hit the road for three straight away games when they take on Dayton this Thursday. St. Joseph’s remains at home in Philadelphia after Sunday’s win and will wait until Thursday when Richmond comes to town for a match at 7 p.m.
