Supremacy, dominance, superiority, preeminence, ascendancy, incomparability – the Massachusetts women’s swimming and diving team exhibited all of these traits while handing the Rams a good old fashioned beating on Saturday.
The Minutewomen forced their will upon Fordham, defeating them 143.5 to 98.5.
With the win over the Atlantic 10 rival Rams, UMass moves to 10-3 on the year, tying a school record for wins. The record is co-held by the 1996-97 team, which also went 10-3.
Kate Allery swept the diving events with scores of 245.25 on the one-meter and 253.05 on the three-meter events.
The relay events again proved reliable for the Maroon and White as the 400-yard medley team of Lauren Rowell, Christen Dexter, Andrea Kazanjian and Anne Dettloff took first with a time of 4:01.22.
The 400-yard free relay team of Shauna Nielson, Lizzy Boyle, Molly Buckley and Dettloff were also victorious.
Dexter continued her dominance in the breaststroke, winning the 200-yard race in 2:23.59.
The freshman has been an essential tool in the success of the Minutewomen as she competes in both the relays and the breaststroke.
Dettloff won the 200-yard free in a time of 1:57.10, while Kazanjian claimed first in the 50-yard free in 24.85.
Nielson, a freshman, scored another victory in the 1000-yard free, finishing with a time of 10:53.90.
Freshman Diana Alberti also got a win in the 200-yard fly, finishing with a time of 2:11.83.
The Minutewomen will return to the pool on Friday, February 9th and Saturday, February 10th when they travel to Storrs, Connecticut for the UConn Husky Invitational.
The Atlantic 10 swimming championships are scheduled for February 15th through February 17th in Buffalo, New York.
