Wednesday
There will be a Bilingual Education Rally and Forum at 12:30 p.m. on the Student Union steps (south side facing the Campus Pond) to present perspectives on voting ballot Question 2.
An open forum will continue the discussion of the Bilingual Education question at 7 p.m. in Campus Center 903. Speakers at the forum will include Teresa Austin, Agustin Lao-Montes, Mari Castaneda Paredes, and Karina Bautista. The event is free and open to all.
The Black Student Union will be holding a general body meeting at 7 p.m. at the Malcolm X Cultural Center. All are welcome.
The Multicultural Greek Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council will present the annual “Meet The Greek” informational from 7 until 10 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.
A public ritual celebrating Halloween/Samhain will be held at the eastside of the Campus Pond. Those interested in finding out what witches really do on Halloween are invited to attend a preceding question and answer session at 4:30 p.m.
The Black Student Art Show will open at Amherst College’s Charles Drew Common Room. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m.
Thursday
A free event exploring the influence of African music on hip-hop, rhythm and blues, and jazz and blues will be held at the Malcolm X Cultural Center from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Speaking at the event will be Professor Vishnu C. Wood and there will also be a featured live performance by the University of Massachusetts music department.
Jewish members of the graduating Class of 2003 are invited by the Hillel House to “A BIG Night” where seniors can visit with one another, while enjoying a home-cooked meal, and watching the movie Big at Robbie Medwed’s home. The evening will begin at 7 p.m., and those interested are asked to RSVP, and request directions if needed, to [email protected].
Kehilat Hillel Haazinu Morning Minyan will be held at the Hillel House at 8 a.m.
Amherst College will be hosting a free showing of Jakob der Lugner (Jakob the Liar). The film will be shown at the Stirn Auditorium in the Mead Art Museum at 4:00 p.m. with an encore presentation at 7:30. The filmmaker will be available for a question and answer session to follow.
As part of the Cuban Cinema Festival, a showing of the film Operation Fangio will be held in room 209 of Herter Hall. The program will start at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
A free event, “Performance of the People,” will be held at Amherst College’s Keefe Campus Center Frontroom at 10 p.m. The high-energy live band experience is sponsored by the Amherst College Office of Student Activities and Keefe Campus Center and will showcase the band’s unique sounds of reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, funk, dub, soul and roots.
Friday
The South Asian Students Association presents a night of cultural dance entitled Dhamaka ’02 at the Campus Center Auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. and running until 2 a.m. Tickets are being sold in advance for $3, and $5 at the door. The Jewish Campus Service Corps invites all interested to attend a “Brown bag lunch with Rachel.” Bring your lunch and meet the Corps’ fellow Rachel Pinsker, in front of the Blue Wall at noon. She will provide dessert following lunch.
Shabbat services will be held at the Hillel House at 6 p.m. Following which there will be Shabbat dinner and an after dinner discussion. Dinner will be at 7:15 p.m., and the discussion “Jewish Women and Politics” led by Devon Fitzig will begin at 8:15 p.m.

Kehillat Hillel Haazinu Morning Services will be held at the Hillel House at 9 a.m.
Sunday
The Hilllel House in conjunction with the Tzedek Hillel and the Amherst community will hold “Shelter Sunday” at noon to collect money for local shelters. For more information contact [email protected].
First-year Jewish students are invited to attend the Hillel House’s “Go Fysh” event at noon. Students will participate in a scavenger hunt around the town of Amherst.
From 2 to 5 p.m. there will be a drama workshop at the Hillel House. The event will be a “creative dramatic exploration of Jewish perspectives on intimacy and relationships” through text, drama, improv and movement. To R.S.V.P. or ask for more information contact [email protected].
Monday
The Black Student Union will sponsor a free performance by the interactive theater troupe, Shaha, which will focus on issues regarding racism, sexism and diversity. The event will be at 7 p.m. at the Malcolm X Cultural Center. Food will be served.
The Augusta Savage Gallery’s exhibit on Islamic Art: “Peace ‘ Beauty” will open with a reception, held from 5-7 p.m. The exhibit, which will run until Nov. 22, features Arabic calligraphy by M.J. Alhabeeb.
A Kehilat Hillel Haazinu Morning service will be held at 7:50 a.m. at the Hillel House.
