Dorm Food 101: 3 recipes to make in your microwave

Mealtime is a college student’s favorite part of the day. But sometimes going to the dining common is too much of an effort just to stand in a line of 30 people for beer battered cod and steamed carrots after a long day of classes. So stay in tonight …but don’t even think about grabbing that instant mac and cheese. Here three easy microwave friendly recipes for a meal or a quick snack.

1. Quesadillas

Ingredients: 2 tortillas, 1/4 cup mozzarella, 1/4 cup cheddar cheese, salsa of choice (I love Newman’s Own pineapple salsa), sour cream

Step 1: Take one tortilla and spread the cheese evenly on top.

Step 2: Pop it into the microwave for 30 seconds

Step 3: Take it out and place the other tortilla on top and microwave it for another 40 seconds.

Step 4: Mix the salsa and sour cream to you liking then spread it over the top. Feel free to add any other toppings

2. Homemade Potato Chips

Ingredients: 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 1 potato cut into thin slices, salt

Step 1: Place the sliced potato and veggie oil into a Ziplock bag. Shake it!

Step 2: Grease a plate with oil or cooking spray and then place the slices in a single layer onto the plate.

Step 3: Microwave until lightly browned (3-5 minutes).

Step 4: Add salt and eat!

3. Chicken Parm

Ingredients: 4 frozen breaded chicken patties, 1 cup spaghetti sauce, 1 cup shredded mozzarella

Step 1: Cook the chicken according to the directions on the package. Set a side.

Step 2: Pour the spaghetti sauce in a bowl and microwave it until it is hot.

Step 3: Pour the sauce and sprinkle the cheese over the chicken

Step 3: Microwave until the cheese is melty
