Cahoon and Co. prepare for new, unique season

The Massachusetts hockey team is now in its 11th season under coach Don Cahoon, Although the Minutemen lost Casey Wellman and James Marcou to graduation, Cahoon has his players are believing in a team first concept this year, in which contributions will come from everyone.

Senior Paul Dainton is one eight goalies to be named captain since the beginning of the UMass hockey program in 1909-10, starting with David Buttrick in 1917 and the first goalie since Brian Reagan in 1997 to be elected as captain and the honor was a surprise, even to him.

Syner in position to take over scoring load

After playing alongside two of the best offensive players in college hockey, junior forward T.J. Syner will be in an integral role for goal-scoring this season. So far this season, Syner’s three points in three games is well on pace to double his 13 total points from a season ago.
