Halloween treats to spice up the holiday

Time to be excited – Halloween is right around the corner.

If you’re planning a Halloween party or just want to take a break from studying for midterms, these delicious and healthy Halloween treats could be a fun way to spice up the holiday.

Pizza Mummies

The first recipe can be found at Spoonful.com and is guaranteed to please everyone, with effortless ingredients and full on flavor. These mini Pizza Mummies are not only healthy but are also easy to eat at a party or gathering, while also creating a spooky atmosphere. In order to make this chilling snack you will need:

English muffins

Tomato pizza sauce

Black olives cut in hlaf

Scallions

Red or green peppers

Cheese sticks or slices. Providing you with your proteins, carbohydrates and greens, this creation is a fun and healthy way to celebrate.

You will need to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Slice the English muffins in half and spread them with the tomato pizza sauce. After doing this, pop the halved olives in place to create the eyes and add green onion or pepper for the pupils. Lay strips of cheese across the muffin to produce the mummy affect and bake them in the oven for 10 minutes. Everyone loves pizza so this indulgence is guaranteed to please all and will not add unwanted weight to the hips.

Melon brain

A melon brain, also inspired by spoonful.com, is a unique and creepy treat that is perfect for healthy students on Halloween.

By peeling the rind off of the outside of a watermelon, the white rind is exposed, forming the shape and color of a brain. Next, slice the bottom of the melon off to create a flat surface for the brain and slice into the melon with a knife in order to construct the exterior of the brain, exposing the pink fruit inside. This is a quirky culinary decoration for anyone wanting to produce a spooky atmosphere, and doubles as a healthy snack.

Pumpkin frosting

As a third treat for those who not only love decorating pumpkins but eating them too, pumpkin frosting is for you.

To add a healthy element to cupcakes, whip a cup of whipping cream in a bowl and gradually add a small amount of sugar. Mint.com suggests adding pumpkin pie spice and cornstarch to form pumpkin frosting, alternatively, real pumpkin fruit adds texture and taste to the frosting. Mix together and you have a delicious but healthy icing to make your cakes look beautiful. For a scarier cupcake you could include black food coloring to the mix to further celebrate the holiday.

Halloween treats do not always need to be unhealthy and making them can be a fun break from the chores of studying during this exam time, getting you in the mood for some ghostly celebrations.
