A University of Massachusetts student was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday night shortly after 11 p.m. on North East Street, according to press release by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

Hannah Frilot, 20, of Amherst, was walking northbound along the side of the street with a friend when she was struck by a Toyota RAV-4. According to the release, the vehicle was being driven northbound by a 63-year-old woman who came to a stop immediately after the collision and called 911, remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities upon their arrival.

Frilot, an engineering student about to enter her senior year at UMass, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her friend was not seriously injured, according to the release.

The incident remains under investigation by the Amherst Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, according to the release.
