Former Massachusetts basketball guard Derrick Gordon has made his decision on where he will play next season in his final year of NCAA eligibility.

After announcing on March 25 that he was transferring from UMass following his redshirt junior season, Gordon revealed via Twitter Sunday that he will be joining Seton Hall for the 2015-16 season.

“It’s been a long recruiting process…But happy to say I will be going to Seton Hall University!!!…Can’t wait to play for Coach Willard,” Gordon said on Twitter.

Gordon’s transfer will mark his third school in five years. He played his freshman year at Western Kentucky before redshirting his 2012-13 season per NCAA rules after transferring to UMass.

Gordon will be immediately eligible to play next year for the Pirates, however, as a graduate transfer.

The Plainfield, New Jersey native started in all 32 games for the Minutemen last season, averaging 9.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. This came after Gordon became the first openly gay Division I men’s basketball player with his announcement in April, 2014.

In March, Gordon said his decision to transfer stemmed from him being unhappy with his role at UMass. Looking to further his prospects at an NBA career, Gordon said he wanted to find a program where he could be a larger focal point in his final year of eligibility.

Gordon returns to play in his home state for a Seton Hall team that finished 16-15 (6-12 Big East) and lost in the first round of its conference tournament in 2014-15. Gordon’s announcement comes a day after the Pirates’ top scorer last year, Sterling Gibbs (16.3 points per game), said he was transferring to Connecticut.
