A University of Massachusetts student died Friday morning after falling from a fourth-story window at the Hasbrouck Laboratory building, according to UMass Police.

James Tilley, a senior from Windham, New Hampshire, died at the scene shortly before 2 a.m. The campus community received an email from David Vaillancourt, senior associate dean of students, informing it of Tilley’s death.

According to the email, Tilley was a member of the Commonwealth Honors College and majored in physics while also minoring in math. He also served as a tutor and was a member of the Society of Physics Students.

“We extend our sincere condolences to James’ family and friends,” Vaillancourt wrote.
