UMPD reports attempted robbery, assault and battery in Southwest

The University of Massachusetts Police Department responded to a report of assault and battery and unarmed attempted robbery outside Moore Hall in Southwest Residential Area Monday night, according to a crime alert sent to the campus community Wednesday night.

The incident took place at 9:00 p.m., according to the alert, and police responded at 10:21 p.m.

The victim reported being knocked to the ground. He believed that the two male suspects were going to take cash from him, but were unsuccessful when he ran from the area.

The suspects are described as one dark-skinned male with facial hair and an afro and a second male, of unknown race, wearing shorts, an orange hat and a brown heavy jacket with a gray jersey underneath.

The UMPD is currently investigating this crime. Anonymous tips can also be provided by calling 413-577-TIPS (6477) or by using UMPD’s anonymous witness form, according to the alert.
