Friday, April 26, 2019

 Traffic Stop

 12:50 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a defective headlight on Massachusetts Avenue.

1:04 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating a vehicle without headlights on near Franklin Dining Commons on Thatcher Road.

2:42 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a failure to stop or yield on lower Massachusetts Avenue.

3:26 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating a vehicle  with an expired registration on North Pleasant Street. The registration was renewed online roadside.

3:53 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for blocking the roadway on Butterfield Terrace.

6:16 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for an inspection violation on Eastman Lane.

6:22 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for an inspection violation on North Residential Drive.

6:39 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a red light violation on Commonwealth Avenue.

8:20 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating without headlights on at night on Commonwealth Avenue.

9:19 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating a vehicle with an expired registration. The registration was renewed roadside.

Lost/Found Property 

1:06 a.m.: A credit card found in the Integrative Learning Center on North Pleasant Street was brought to the police station and placed into lost and found.

1:59 a.m.: A silver HP laptop was found at the Integrated Learning Center on North Pleasant Street in room S220. The laptop was brought to the station and placed into lost and found.

8:03 p.m.: A party reported a UCard found at Big Y in Amherst. The item was secured in the property lockers.

Suspicious Person/Activity

 1:22 a.m.: A party operating his electric skateboard down the middle of Thatcher Road was advised to stay off the roads.

3:21 a.m.: Fire Engine 1 reported three male parties on the roof of the Agricultural Engineering Building on Natural Resources Road. The area was checked and no parties were found.

Disturbance

2:36 a.m.: A Residential Assistant stated there was an argument around 1:30 a.m. When he checked on the parties, they were crying but no one seemed in distress. The Residence Director requested they be checked to make sure they were okay. The parties were read their rights and resource cards were given to both parties. An incident report was completed.

2:39 a.m.: A reporting party stated that he was out with a male and female verbally arguing. The female seemed distraught. An incident report was completed.

Suspicious Object

 7:57 a.m.: A student reported an unattended suitcase on the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and North Pleasant Street. A woman was seen walking away with the suitcase.

Traffic Enforcement

8:27 a.m.: Crosswalk enforcement was conducted on Massachusetts Avenue.

Larceny

9:04 a.m.: A reporting party flagged down an officer to state that his bike was stolen. The party stated that her bike was a blue, black and silver colored Sedona bike from Lincoln Apartments on Lincoln Avenue. The officer stated that there was a bike matching the description at the studio arts bus stop.

Assist Citizen

10:54 a.m.: A reporting party came to the police station to speak on the situation last night. He was advised no charges were pending, and the party did not wish to press charges.

Disabled Motor Vehicle

 12:40 a.m.: A reporting party stated there was a disabled gold-colored vehicle with New York tags that was disabled in front of the Mullins Center on Commonwealth Avenue. AAA was on scene.

10:48 p.m.: A reporting party stated they were stuck in the mud. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

Alarm-Elevator 

3:20 p.m.: Two parties were trapped in elevator seven of Washington Dorm on Fearing Street. Fire Engine 1 and housing was notified. The parties were able to exit the elevator.

11:20 p.m.: A party was stuck in an elevator at Field Dorm on Orchard Hill Drive. An elevator technician was able to get the elevator running again, and the party exited the elevator.

Alarm-Fire

4:38 p.m.: An accidental or defective alarm went off at Berkshire Dining Commons on Southwest Circle. Amherst Fire Department and Fire Engine 1 were on scene. Fire Engine 1 stated there was no smoke or fire.

11:27 p.m.: An alarm went off at Lewis Dorm on Thatcher Road for a faulty sensor and was activated due to water in the attic. Fire Engine 1 remained on scene to fix the faulty sensor.

Alarm-Fire Trouble

5:58 p.m.: A fire alarm went off at Patterson Dorm on Sunset Avenue after a power bump from a storm.

7:04 p.m.: An accidental or defective alarm went off at the Rand Theatre of the Fine Arts Center on Presidents Drive. Fire Engine 1 was notified.

Liquor Law Violations

 9:11 p.m.: A small amount of alcohol was destroyed in Lot 14 at the Sortino Softball Complex on Stadium Drive.

9:37 p.m.: A liquor law violation was investigated in Lot 27 (south of Lot 44) on Sylvan Drive. The date of birth of the party was checked okay.

9:49 p.m.: An 18 and over male was arrested in Lot 44 (north of Sylvan Dorms) on Sylvan Drive for possession of alcohol under the age of 21.

Parking Complaint 

11:58 p.m.: A parking ticket was issued to a vehicle parked at the dumpsters partially blocking the access to John Quincy Adams Dorm in Lot 50F on John Adams Road.

 Intoxicated Person

12:01 a.m.: A residence hall security guard outside Thoreau Dorm on Massachusetts Avenue stated an intoxicated party was outside the building yelling and bothering people. The party was not a student. An officer located the party, and the party did not meet protective custody and was in the process of finding his friend group.

12:28 a.m.: An intoxicated female semi-conscious and not alert was seen at Melville Dorm on Massachusetts Avenue. The party did not meet protective custody criteria.

12:49 a.m.: A party seen outside Melville Dorm on Massachusetts Avenue did not meet protective custody criteria.

1:47 a.m.: An intoxicated female was seen conscious and not alert at Pierpont Dorm on Fearing Street. The party did not meet protective custody criteria.

Traffic Stop

1:07 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a defective headlight on University Drive.

2:05 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for defective equipment on Commonwealth Avenue.

2:21 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating with a flat tire on Commonwealth Avenue. The operator stated they struck a curb earlier. They did not show any signs of impairment. Ernie’s Towing was contacted and changed the tire.

2:32 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for defective equipment on Governors Drive.

9:24 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a failure to stop or yield on University Drive.

9:41 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a traffic warning citation for an inspection violation at the Reserve Officer Training Corps on Massachusetts Avenue.

9:52 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a crosswalk violation on Thatcher Road.

9:58 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for an inspection violation on Massachusetts Avenue.

1:26 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a failure to stop at the intersection of University Drive and Massachusetts Avenue.

1:35 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a failure to stop at the intersection of University Drive and Massachusetts Avenue.

4:33 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued verbal warning for a one-way violation in Lot 50F (west of Patterson Hall, south of John Adams Tower) on John Adams Road.

5:45 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a plate cover on the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.

7:29 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for an inspection violation on Kennedy Road.

7:47 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a marked lanes violation on Stadium Drive.

7:48 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a plate light violation by Lot 25 on Commonwealth Avenue.

8:11 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for an inspection violation on Massachusetts Avenue.

8:19 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a headlight violation on University Drive.

8:19 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a marked lanes violation in Lot 39 by the Recreation Center on Commonwealth Avenue.

8:37 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating a vehicle without headlights on on Thatcher Road.

8:56 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating without lights on lower Massachusetts Avenue.

9:48 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating a vehicle without headlights on on Sunset Avenue.

9:52 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a one-way violation on Southwest Circle.

9:59 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating a vehicle without headlights on on Commonwealth Avenue.

11:32 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a defective headlight on Commonwealth Avenue.

11:33 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a one-way violation on University Drive.

Alarm-Fire Trouble

1:42 a.m.: An accidental or defective alarm went off in Maple House at the Commonwealth Honors College on Commonwealth Avenue.

2:32 a.m.: An accidental or defective alarm went off at Crabtree Dorm on Eastman Lane.

10:58 a.m.: An accidental or defective alarm, as well as air conditioning failure, occurred at Fernald Hall on Stockbridge Road. The generator was tested.

8:41 p.m.: An accidental or defective alarm went off in Elm House at the Commonwealth Honors College on Commonwealth Avenue. Fire Engine 1 was notified, and the alarm was cleared.

Alarm-(Pre-Fire)

10:40 a.m.: An accidental or defective alarm went off at Mackimmie Dorm on Sunset Avenue for an unknown reason. The system was reset.

6:49 p.m.: An accidental or defective pre-alarm went off in McNamara Dorm on Eastman Lane. Fire Engine 1 reset the alarm.

Traffic Enforcement

11:14 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for an inspection violation on Cold Storage Drive. The operator of a vehicle was issued a traffic warning citation for an inspection violation on Governors Drive near the cold storage.

5:25 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for a one-way violation on Massachusetts Avenue.

8:22 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating a vehicle without headlights on Thatcher Road.

Assist Citizen

12:24 p.m.: Parties were assisted at Fernald Hall on Stockbridge Hall who were dropping a tick to be tested. An officer was able to access the building and located the drop box. The specimen was submitted.

Suspicious Person/Activity

2:39 p.m.: A reporting party stated that a male with a wrist laceration walked out of University Health Services and was believed to be intoxicated as well. The party was checked okay. Amherst Police Department also arrived during this time.

Suspicious Vehicle

3:21 p.m.: The reporting party stated that he had observed a grey Toyota driving back and forth near the track on Stadium Drive. The vehicle was parked, but the movement seemed suspicious. No further vehicle or occupant information was given. There were several silver/grey sedans in the area. The reporting party was advised to call back if he needed further assistance.

Lost/Found Property 

4:35 p.m.: A wallet found in Lot 33A (west of University Drive-North End) was found by an officer. The officer brought the wallet to the station and placed in property.

6:21 p.m.: An officer found a wallet in Lot 33A (west of University Drive-North End) and brought it to the station.

Assist Other Police Departments

10:29 p.m.: A two-car motor vehicle accident occurred on the intersection of North Pleasant Street and Governors Drive. APD was on scene, and all vehicles were cleared.

Alarm-Elevator

 10:24 p.m.: Housing staff at John Adams Dorm advised of an entrapment in elevator six. Fire Engine 1 and AFD were advised. AFD was on scene. An officer stated that an AFD truck was blocking an entrance to the hole. The elevator was opened.

Disabled Motor Vehicle

11:42 p.m.: An officer was out with a disabled motor vehicle. An Ernie’s Towing truck arrived on scene. The car was parked in Lot 34, and a “no tag, no tow” was added to the notes.

 

Sunday, April 28, 2019 

Traffic Stop

12:04 a.m.: A verbal warning was issued to the operator of a vehicle near the Robsham Visitors Center on Massachusetts Avenue for speeding.

12:10 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating without headlights on on University Drive.

12:21 a.m.: A verbal warning issue was issued to the operator of a vehicle on University Drive and Dallas Drive for their registration and operating without headlights.

12:27 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for operating over the speed limit with defective equipment on Massachusetts Avenue.

12:33 a.m.: A verbal warning was issued to the operator of vehicle on Hicks Way for their headlights.

12:56 a.m.: An officer pulled over the operator of a vehicle on Campus Center Way and issued a verbal warning for an unsafe lane change.

2:37 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for driving without headlights on Massachusetts Avenue near the Robsham Visitors Center.

2:40 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was stopped and issued a verbal warning for defective equipment.

2:49 a.m.: An 18-year-old man from Lowell, Mass. was arrested on Fearing Street on charges of operating under the influence of drugs, no inspection sticker, obstructing traffic (on roadway), unlicensed operator of a motor vehicle, number plate violation, tire outside fender, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and person under 21 possessing liquor. Ernie’s towed the vehicle and the party was released for court on Monday.

8:51 a.m.: A verbal warning was issued to the operator of a vehicle on Massachusetts Avenue for an expired registration. The officer stated the owner had all of the paperwork in hand and it was a mistake on the Registry of Motor Vehicles behalf.

9:19 a.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning on Massachusetts Avenue for speeding.

10:24 a.m.: A verbal warning was issued to an operator of a vehicle for driving distracted on University Drive.

4:58 p.m.: A verbal warning was issued to the operator of a vehicle on Commonwealth Avenue and Hicks Way for defective equipment.

7:30 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle was issued a verbal warning for speeding on Commonwealth Avenue near Lot 25S (across from the Power Plant).

7:48 p.m.: The operator of a vehicle on Massachusetts Avenue was issued a verbal warning for speeding.

8:01 p.m.: A verbal warning was issued to the operator of a vehicle on Stadium Drive for failing to stop at a stop sign.

10:14 p.m.: A verbal warning was issued to the operator of a vehicle on Commonwealth Avenue for a defective brake light.

10:30 p.m.: A verbal warning for a one way violation was issued to the operator of a vehicle on Massachusetts Avenue.

Suspicious Person/Activity

12:34 a.m.: An officer investigated two parties on University Drive. Both checked “okay.”

1:08 a.m.: Three parties were on Massachusetts Avenue with a shopping cart. They told an officer they would return it to University Liquors.

1:22 a.m.: An incident report was completed for a party near the north end of Lot 33A (west of University Drive) on University Drive.

4:04 a.m.: An incident report was completed for an individual in North Residential Area, outside Apt. C.

12:30 p.m.: A reporting party states a female party was followed by a male wearing red shoes and carrying a half empty water bottle. He followed her from South College to Roots Cafe and she wanted to speak to an officer.

10:57 p.m.: An officer was out with a party near Lot 25S (across from the Power Plant) on Commonwealth Avenue. The party checked “okay.”

Liquor Law Violations

 12:43 a.m.: An individual was issued a summons for arrest.

2:42 a.m.: An 18-year-old man from Melrose, Mass. was arrested on Sunset Avenue on charges of a person under 21 possessing liquor and false/misuse liquor ID card. Bond was set at $40, which was paid. The party was released with court set for Monday.

4:16 p.m.: A small amount of alcohol was dumped near Lot 33A on University Drive.

Intoxicated Person

12:56 a.m.: A female party in the lobby of John Adams Dorm in Southwest Residential Area was intoxicated and conscious, but not alert. An officer checked and said she was “okay.”

1:15 a.m.: An incident report was completed for an intoxicated person in Washington Hall in the Southwest Residential Area.

1:29 a.m.: An individual in Washington Hall in the Southwest Residential Area was placed in protective custody after being found intoxicated.

911 Hang-Up Call

2:29 a.m.: The help phone outside of Durfey Conservatory on Stockbridge Road called the UMPD station, but no voices were heard. No one was found in the area.

Alarm – (Pre-Fire)

 2:53 a.m.: Fire Engine 1 was notified after an accidental/defective alarm was activated in Mackimmie Hall in Southwest Residential Area.

2:16 p.m.: Fire Engine 1 was notified after the alarm went off in North Residential Area, Apt. C after being activated by smoke from cooking.

Disabled Motor Vehicle

3:14 a.m.: An officer was flagged down on Commonwealth Avenue and Campus Center Way for a disabled motor vehicle. The officer requested a “no tag, no tow” until Tuesday.

3:52 a.m.: An officer found a driver who was lost on Eastman Lane.

Lost/Found Property

4:29 a.m.: Cadets located a cell phone in John Quincy Adams Hall in Southwest Residential Area and brought it to UMPD.

2:13 p.m.: A debit card was found and returned to the Crabtree Residential Service Desk before being brought to UMPD.

7:13 p.m.: A wallet was found on University Drive.

Assist Citizen

5:25 a.m.: A reporting party stated there was what sounded like an argument in a dorm building. A male voice was heard making threatening remarks and yelling and a female voice was heard crying. A thumping and banging noise was heard, which the female reports was her falling out of a bed. She was offered medical attention but she refused. The two parties were separated.

Traffic Enforcement

8:06 a.m.: A traffic warning was issued to the operator of a vehicle on Massachusetts Avenue at Mullins Way.

9:28 p.m.: A verbal warning was issued to the operator of a vehicle on Commonwealth Avenue for operating without headlights.

Parking Complaint

10:11 a.m.: A parking ticket was issued for a vehicle not being parked in a space in the Southwest circle.

10:57 a.m.: Vehicles not parked in spaces in Lot 42 (south of Boyden Gym) on Commonwealth Avenue were issued tickets.

5:13 p.m.: No residential life parking spots were available in Lot 50D (in between Crampton and Prince Hall in the Southwest Residential Area) for a party in a silver Hyundai. The owners were contacted and were en route.

8:49 p.m.: Tickets were issued to four vehicles on Tobin Road for using all of the residential life parking spaces.

Assist Agency

2:20 p.m.: Three student IDs were found in Lot 33A (west of University Drive) on University Drive and placed into property at UMPD.

Suspicious Vehicle

4:26 p.m.: A vehicle on University Drive near Lot 21 had its doors opened after being secured. The vehicle did not appear to have been gone through.
