The Lady Eagles’ Leslie Ahern tallied both scores for Lock Haven on Saturday against Sacred Heart leading her team to a 2-0 victory. The senior netted her first goal at the end of the first half, putting a pass from Kristi Shepps past the goaltender. She scored again in the second half, again taking a pass from Shepps and scoring her second of the day.

The Lady Eagles scored their first goal in the 28th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the half. Ahern would score her second goal in the 39th minute on a defensive breakdown.

Lock Haven was lead by its goalkeeper Kelsey Moll’s impressive play in net, making 10 saves and thereby recording her second straight shutout.

Sunday’s action would not be as kind to Lock Haven as it dropped a nail-biter in overtime to Fairfield, 2-1.

Ahern continued her strong start to the season scoring an unassisted goal to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead at the half. This was Ahern’s eleventh goal of the season and earned her the Atlantic 10’s Player of the Week award for a second time.

Lock Haven failed to score another goal, however, and saw its lead disappear when Fairfield netted a game-tying goal with roughly 10-minutes left in regulation. When the game went into overtime, the Lady Eagles couldn’t hold on, dropping their seventh game of the season.

This weekend’s action brings the Lady Eagles to a 7-7 record as they enter A-10 play against Massachusetts this Saturday.

Spiders squashed by ODU

Richmond dropped its first game of the weekend to ODU 2-0 on Friday in an impressive showing. The Spiders were able to hold the Monarchs scoreless in the first half of the game and went into the half scoreless, but satisfied with its efforts.

The Spiders could not hold off ODU for much longer, however, as the Monarchs scored two goals in the second half and never looked back. Goals by Rebecca Condie and Danielle Clutter put ODU ahead by two and sealed the victory.

The Spiders were led by goalkeeper Anna Zarkoski, who tallied nine saves in the losing effort. Zarkowski is having an impressive season so far, leading the nation in save percentage and keeping her squad in every game it has played.

Despite the loss on Friday, the Spiders were able to bounce back and pick up a victory on Sunday against William & Mary.

Richmond jumped out to an early lead when senior Katelin Peterson netted the first goal of the game with three-minutes left in the first half. She deflected a shot by junior Natalie Gallo and found the back of the cage to give the Spiders the lead.

The Spiders withstood a late push by the Tribe in the second half, and got their insurance goal from sophomore Chelsea Davies in the 49th minute to seal the win.

Richmond now sits at 6-5 on the season and will play its first A-10 game against Saint Louis on Friday.

Temple Falls Again

Temple continued to struggle in the early part of the season, losing both of its games over the weekend to drop to 3-9 as it prepares to enter conference play.

The Owls opened up the weekend hosting No. 11 California. The team fought hard from the start, getting eight shots including three from its top goal-scorer Bridget Settles but none of them found the back of the net as the Owls dropped the game, 4-0 to, the Bears.

Cal received two goals from Jordan O’Reilly on the day and registered 13 shots, five more than the Owls.

Even after the loss, Temple put up more of a fight against American on Sunday, but couldn’t get a victory, dropping that game, 3-2.

The Owls struck first three minutes into the game on a goal by Caryn Lambright to give them a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The Eagles came out striking after the half scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead. The Owls would add a late score but it would prove to be futile.

The Owls will try to get back on track as they begin conference play against their rival Saint Joseph’s on Friday.
