UMass earns spot on national community service honor roll

The University of Massachusetts has been recognized by the Corporation for National and Community Service for its commitment to volunteering, service learning and civic engagement, according to a University press release.

The federal organization, which encourages and promotes community service activities, has lauded the University by placing it on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll – the sixth year that the University’s garnered such an achievement, according to the release.

“We are continuing to develop new opportunities for our students to integrate community service learning and engagement into their academic studies,” noted John Reiff, the director of Civic Engagement and Service Learning at UMass, in the release. “We have more than 40 partnerships with community organizations and schools in Holyoke, Springfield, Amherst and area towns that host service-learning placements connected to UMass courses.”

The organization, according to the release, selects those it places on the honor roll based on the types of service projects and number of students who participate in service initiatives.
