Michigan routs Purdue, Texas A&M tops Mississippi late

The No. 25 Michigan football team topped Purdue on Saturday, 44-13, in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Wolverines (3-2, 1-0 Big Ten) dominated on the ground, rushing for 304 yards in the contest to the Boilermakers’ 56. Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson did most of the damage, tallying 235 rushing yards in the victory.

Michigan got on the board first on a Fitzgerald Toussaint 1-yard touchdown run with four minutes, 40 seconds left in the first quarter.

Toussaint added his second touchdown of the game in the opening minute of the second quarter to extend the lead to 14-0.

Two minutes following the touchdown, Wolverines’ Raymond Taylor intercepted the Boilermakers and ran it back 63 yards for the score to make it 21-0.

With 10 seconds left in the second quarter, Purdue’s O.J. Ross scored the only Boilermaker touchdown of the night on a pass from Caleb TerBush to cut the deficit to 28-10 at the half.

Michigan kicker Brendan Gibbons nailed three field goals in the contest, including a pair in the fourth quarter.

The Wolverines return to action this Saturday when it hosts Illinois for the team’s Homecoming game, while Purdue also has its Homecoming game against Wisconsin.

Texas A&M edges past Mississippi

Texas A&M came out on top in a close affair, beating Mississippi, 30-27, on Saturday.

The No. 22 Aggies pulled ahead when quarterback Johnny Manziel hit Ryan Swope for a 20-yard touchdown pass with 1:46 left in the game to seal the victory. Texas A&M trailed by 10 early in the fourth quarter before storming back with two unanswered touchdowns.

The Aggies got on the board in the first minute of play when Ben Malena darted 59 yards for the score to put them up, 7-0. However, Mississippi would respond with a touchdown by Jeff Scott and a 46-yard field goal by Bryson Rose to give the Rebels a 10-7 lead.

The two sides exchanged scores in the second and third quarters and a 28-yarder by Rose gave Mississippi a 20-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Donte Moncrief extended the Rebels’ lead to 27-17 on a 4-yard touchdown grab from quarterback Bo Wallace before the Aggies stormed back.

Texas A&M returns to the field on Saturday when it travels to No. 23 Louisiana Tech. Meanwhile, Mississippi hosts Auburn on Saturday for its Homecoming game.
