Joust the vote

Secretary of State Bill Jones brought his weeklong campaign to register voters to Sacramento State Wednesday, and threw in a jousting match in the library quad.

The jousting match was substituted for inflatable sumo wrestling suits, which Jones has entertained other college-age audiences with.

At Sac State, more than 300 students registered to vote during the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. program. The program included speeches from University President Gerth and Secretary Jones, In his speech Jones stressed the importance of technology to attract voters. “Its important we use technology to reach people” Jones said.

The stop at Sac State was part of a week-long, statewide effort to register potential voters. The campaign was kicked off on Monday at the Capitol and began with a registration tour on Tuesday with grocery-store day. The statewide effort is designed to register would-be voters who otherwise would not stray from their daily lives to register.
