The Minutewomen will open its 2009-2010 season against BU this Sunday, with a load of young talent and a group of experienced players. UMass will take on Big East opponents Villanova and St. Johns and will play in two tournaments before a 14-game A-10 conference schedule.

After reaching their first Atlantic 10 Tournament in five seasons, UMass’ fell to Fordham in the opening round of the conference tournament Thursday night. The Minutewomen finish with a 6-11-2 record in Angela Napoli’s first season at the helm.

Facing two must-win games to make the conference tournament, the Minutewomen came away with two 1-0 victories. Sydney Stoll and Lauren Yelinek provided the offense in each game and the defense did the rest to secure the wins.

After being benched at halftime against Saint Joseph’s earlier this season, goalie Lauren Luckey returned to start against Dayton on Sunday. Luckey allowed three goals on 22 attempts while recording nine saves in a 3-0 loss to the Flyers.

After an unsuccessful weekend, the UMass women’s soccer team hopes to end its two-game losing skid against La Salle today and Fordham Sunday. While the defense has been consistent, the Minutewomen have been lacking on offense, as none of their 11 shots found the back of the net last weekend against Saint Louis and Charlotte.
