Freshman Connor DeVivo made a game-wining goal to extend the Massachusetts men’s soccer team’s undefeated streak, earning him the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor. In the five matches that the Chicopee, Mass. native has played, only one has resulted in a loss.

After kicking off Atlantic 10 play by splitting with a victory over Xavier and a draw with Dayton, the Massachusetts men’s soccer team heads on the road to take on Rhode Island in its first away conference match. The Rams (2-7-2, 0-1-1 A-10), meanwhile, sit nowhere near the top of the standings in the A-10 thus far with a single point to their credit.

Much of the frustration for the Massachusetts men’s soccer team in the regular season can be attributed to its ineffective play in the second half. Of the 14 goals the Minutemen have relinquished this season, eight have come in the second half and one in double overtime. Shots are also coming easier for opponents in the second half, as UMass has allowed 89 shots in the second half compared to 50 in the first.
