Where There’s Jacko, There’s Plenty of Wacko
FACT — Accusations of sexual harassment against Grammy president Michael Greene wasn’t the only thing to cause of a headache for the beleaguered organization in January. Dick Clark, producer of the American Music Awards, accused Greene of telling Jackson that he couldn’t appear on both the AMAs and the Grammys. The spat led Clark to file a $10 million lawsuit against Greene for engaging in unfair competition-a practice he alleges has been going on for years. In the end, Jackson appeared at the AMAs to accept his Artist of the Century award but a tape of Jacko performing “Man in the Mirror,” which was supposed to air during the three-hour ABC telecast, was yanked at the last minute. Reps for the King of Pop reportedly demanded that show producers pull it at the last minute. Insiders speculate that Jacko’s camp feared airing the tape would have jeopardized his chances of performing at next month’s Grammys.
