Choosing the top 10 albums of 2002

Along with all of the essential DFA 12-inch singles listed in the adjacent article, here are my top 10 choices for 2002. And hey, I haven’t heard everything. So if I missed your favorite, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad. Unless it’s Avril Lavinge.

Tim’s Top 10 of 2002

1. Liars- They Stuck Us in a Trench and Put a Monument on Top: Uncontrollable urges and ferociously dark humor from the most creative band of 2002.

2. Ladytron- Light and Magic: A sophomore album that improves on the then, now, and tomorrow aesthetic that Ladytron effortlessly present.

3. Interpol- Turn on the Bright Lights: Mention Joy Division and I’ll smack you. Besides, can you think of a better band to rip off?

4. Out Hud- S.T.R.E.E.T.D.A.D: Members of !!! reinvent Mogwai as a dance band and craft one of the most gorgeous instrumental albums in recent memory.

5. The Flaming Lips- Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots: America’s weirdest band writes a musical accompaniment to an anim
