Expecting a snow storm that could pummel Western Massachusetts with over a foot of snow, the Student Government Association has rescheduled their Lobby and Convention Day, originally intended to be held today at the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
SGA officials have moved the date to Feb. 22. Buses will pick up students, free of charge, at 8 a.m. in front of the Student Union steps.
Students who would like to travel to Boston and participate in Lobby Day are urged to sign up at [email protected].
Lobby and Convention Day aims to bring UMass students to the State House by bus in an attempt to influence legislators for affordable higher education. Those attending the event plan on speaking to State Rep. Kevin J. Murphy (D-Lowell), who serves on the Joint Committee on High Education.
“Is it fair to say, that this is the most exciting movement that Massachusetts has seen in 20 years, and that this is the first statewide initiative to pull together students, faculty, and staff to call for democratic, free higher education that respects everybody?” asked Student Trustee, Mishy Leiblum.
